The UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation (LCI), which unites UCLA scholars with civic leaders to solve environmental challenges, wanted to raise its profile in a way that highlighted its world-class research and researchers. Story & Reach took LCI through a strategic communications planning and messaging process, and then worked with LCI to put the plan into action.

LCI saw a major increase in media coverage of key report releases, both in California and nationally; strengthened its relationships with journalists; and secured op-ed placements that raised its profile as California’s premiere independent environmental research organization.

The international Keeling Curve Prize for projects that address global warming wanted to grow its reputation as a prestigious and coveted climate prize. Story & Reach developed messaging and a plan for delivering it to potential applicants and the wider climate action community.

Inside Philanthropy published an in-depth feature about the organization, web traffic quadrupled during the 2020 prize application period compared to the year before, and applications doubled, with well over 300 companies and organizations from around the world entering the Keeling Curve Prize competition.

As kids headed back to school in record-breaking temperatures, research from the UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation showed how extreme heat contributes to the racial education achievement gap and could reduce future earnings potential for low-income and minority students.

Story

The Solutions Project asked us to help raise the thought leadership profile of the Rev. Leo Woodberry, an African-American environmental justice leader and pastor of the Kingdom Living Temple in Florence, S.C.

& Reach

Rev. Woodberry’s high-profile op-ed placements and media coverage caught the attention of members of Congress and 2020 presidential candidates. He was invited to testify at a key congressional hearing on climate change, and held a National Press Club press conference with Rep. A. Donald McEachin (D-VA), who went on to co-found the House of Representatives’ United for Climate and Environmental Justice Task Force. Rev. Woodberry also co-organized the first-ever Presidential Candidates’ Forum on Environmental Justice, featuring Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Cory Booker, and Tom Steyer.

Pack4U wanted a very short video to convey how an ecosystem that packages and delivers multiple medications, monitors compliance, and connects patients living at home with their care teams can improve healthcare outcomes. They also wanted to speak to pharmacists and doctors. But they didn’t want a how-to video, or anything that felt like an infomercial.

& Reach

On the theory that showing is better than telling, we developed and produced a brief video that illustrates how Pack4U’s system can help elderly people live a healthier, more engaged life — and we spoke to pharmacists, doctors and families, as well. Our client loved the video, and we do, too.

Small towns across America are full of big stories. Natalie uses recorded  interviews, sounds and images to create entertaining and informative scripts for episodes of Small Town, Big Deal.
